About Us

Our strategic aim is to facilitate high quality continuous professional development and specialist medical training for the practice of anaesthesia. This is mainly achieved through the delivery of training courses and the provision of training services which include support for course development, bookings, registration, feedback, certificates and payments. This level of administrative support enables anaesthetists who are developing educational programs to focus their enthusiasm and skills on the substance of the course rather than be distracted by the non-educational aspects. We aim to reduce the inevitable organisational complexity surrounding any educational activity organised across the region and offer assurance in the quality of education.

Our trustees are all practicing anaesthetists in the West of Scotland. Although WOSAT organsises a substantial part of the overall educational activities, a significant amount of our work is dependent on the numerous dedicated and enthusiastic anaesthetists who have helped provide teaching through a diverse mix of skills, knowledge, ideas and teaching methods. Our course participants come from all over the country. Doctors from all training grades, nurses, and medical students all benefit from our training.

In addition to organising courses and providing administrative support, WOSAT operates a bursary scheme for postgraduate educational or quality improvement activities aimed at trainee anaesthetists and nurses in the West of Scotland School of Anaesthesia. Applications are encouraged for projects which deliver clear benefits in patient care or improvement in anaesthetic education.

The training opportunities which we facilitate continue to grow and we look forward to supporting more providers of medical education and training in the provision of the excellent standards which have been longstanding in the West of Scotland.
